Please join me to celebrate my new book Know Justice, Know Peace, Black Lives Matter New York City Protest 2020 at the Interchurch Center at Galleries 61 Claremont Ave. (Corner of 120th St.) Wednesday, October 12, from 12 noon until 2:30.
The largest protests in the history of New York were the 2020 Black Lives Matter marches following the brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis that was captured on video. The outrage fueled massive turnout locally, nationally, and around the world. At the height of the pandemic, people of all ages, races, and backgrounds took to the streets day and night to demand police reform.
I joined the rallies and photographed the throngs that engulfed New York City during June and July. The result of my engagement is Know Justice, Know Peace.
Here are comments from readers:
“Gore records history in the way he knows so well with his intuitive regard for the camera and what it can reveal. He is a master storyteller.”
Marilyn Satin Kushner, Ph.D., New-York Historical Society
“These images capture a moment in a movement, an energy, a collective demand for justice and equity of a scope unlike we’ve seen in decades that swept the country and was palpably present here in New York.”
Jumaane D. Williams, New York City Public Advocate
“What we experience in this book is that social protest is a complex visual story to photograph and through the lens of Bob Gore we experience instantly respect in a time of turmoil.”
Deborah Willis, Ph.D. New York University
